How To: Install Sony's PlayStation Mobile (PSM) Store on Your Nexus 7 Tablet for Free Mini-Games

Install Sony's PlayStation Mobile (PSM) Store on Your Nexus 7 Tablet for Free Mini-Games

Don't always believe the marketing hype. "PlayStation Certified" does not mean anything to a softModder. All this indicates is that a smartphone or tablet labeled as "PlayStation Certified" has met the guidelines and hardware requirements issued by Sony to display PlayStation Mobile (PSM) content from the PlayStation Mobile Store correctly.

No Nexus 7 here.

This is unfortunate, because there are some really cool paid and free games out there from developers in the Land of the Rising Sun that are only available on PSM. Luckily, as with all things Android, softModding our devices to overcome problems like this is pretty easy.

So, in today's lesson, I'll be showing you how to install the PlayStation Mobile Store on your Nexus 7 tablet, or pretty much any Android device not officially supported by Sony's guidelines.

Let's begin!

Step 1: Prerequisite

You'll need to rooted with a custom recovery installed before you begin. If not, visit my definitive guide to softModding your Nexus 7 to get everything ready, then proceed to the next step.

Also, make sure Unknown Sources is checked in Settings -> Security.

Step 2: Download & Install PSM Files

First, head over to PlayStation's website to download the official PlayStation Mobile APK, but don't install it just yet. Installing this alone will not work, and you'll likely get an 8008103E error code.

So, to get the PSM to play nice with our Nexus 7, you'll also need to download this .zip of certified files that the PSM relies on to work properly (thanks to Artem from Android Police). This will trick PSM into seeing our Nexus 7 tablet as a "PlayStation Certified" device, so we'll need to install this first.

Flashing the .zip file is the same usual business. Reboot into your custom recovery by long pressing the Power button and choosing "Recovery".

You can also manually boot into your custom recovery by powering off your tablet then powering it back on with the Power and Volume Down buttons pressed.

Once in Recovery, tap Install, choose the .zip file, and then Slide to Confirm Flash.

Reboot.

After this is done, you can install the official PSM APK by clicking on it from your downloads folder and following the instructions (no reboot needed afterward).

Step 3: Using the PSM Store

Launch PSM from the app drawer. PSM requires an account, so if you don't already have one, you'll need to create on. Those of you who have a PlayStation Network (PSN) account from your PS3 or PS Vita can login with your usual account.

Note: The PlayStation Mobile store is region locked. If you're not in a supported country, you won't have access to the store. Changing the region during set up doesn't bypass the lock. YMMV.

Simply tap to download any mini-game you want, free or paid, and the game will download.

Here, I have a few mini-games already installed in my library.

Here's a puzzle game running on my Nexus 7! Games will either use the on-screen controls or be touch-enabled.

That's it! It's very simple to install and get on our Nexus 7s. Give the store a try and see if you find any cool games to play!

Hello. It's working for me but I have no content. When I try to login says my country not supported. Which country are you use it?

I can not create an account. This service isn't available in chosen country/region. Changing of regions does not solve the problem.

Just a note, the store is region locked. Your mileage may vary. There's no way to bypass that right now.

I created my PlayStation Network (PSN) account on its site (with choosing an available but not true country as my location) successfully. But app's service doesn't' available as before. Sadly, that was a good idea to use Sony's PlayStation possibilities on my Nexus7.

I keep getting the PlayStation store is undergoing maintenance then the app closes???

When I installed this, I could no longer use my web browser. It would just close on me. Strange. So I had to do a restore. That sucks. Any idea what went wrong? Nexus 7 2nd gen.

I don't want to try it after everyone else having issues, lol

Or you can simple download PPSSPP (PSP emulator) and play any PSP game :D You are welcome !

I can verify that this works on a rooted Kindle running CyanogenMod 11 by Hashcode (AOSP, Android 4.4.3). No problems whatsoever with browser or region(US).

Thanks a lot for this softmod Tut.
